What is Equality and Diversity?

Equal Opportunities is about making sure that your Organisation complies with current UK legislation including the Equalities Act 2010 relating to equality issues.  It is also about making sure that your Organisation genuinely tries to operate in a way that is fair to everyone and allows everyone to have equal access to your services.  Often, Organisations tend to assume that they are “open to everyone” because that’s how they see themselves. But making that a reality involves

  • assessing how open you are to all sections of the community
  • identifying areas where you need to improve
  • setting improvement targets for your group
  • planning how you will reach those targets
  • working to put your plan into action
  • monitoring progress towards your targets
  • regularly reviewing your plans and progress
